Ami's love life is full of troubles; she just can't seem to find the right man to be with. She is very shy around the opposite sex, most likely to due the lack of a father-figure in her life. But what's so wrong about the men around her? Though she's only had one "quasi-love", she still is attracted to the good looks and character of some of the "hotter" boys on the show; too bad everyone else likes them as well.

As the youngest member of the Shitennou, Zoisite is the most unstable and hormonal out of the four of them. The manga represents the calm, calculating nature of Zoisite in his first scenes and shadowed appearances; he is in big contrast to Jadeite and Nephrite. His strategies are very resourceful and well-planned, using all necessary resources to gather the most amount of energy. But he does harbor a split personality that is jealous, ruthless, and irritable. The anime mostly plays with this side although it is seen towards the end of his time in the manga. Takeuchi had possibilites for a past Mercury+Zoisite tie-in but only drew us a teasing image (pictured left).

The anime and manga version of Zoisite don't seem to be the "right" kind for Ami. It's would be hard to either one of them to be the more aggressive member of the coupling since they are both very loving and quite feminine. I find it difficult to think Ami would just skim over Zoi's dirty tricks and ruthless behavior. But in Seramyu, the Zoi + Ami relationship is featured in songs like "Itsuari no Forevermore" and "Koi no Dangerous" where Zoisite takes a very masculine approach to steal Ami's heart. It's quite a scene to see them dance together and fall in love; and even more powerful when she discovers his true identity and fights him in SRD's "Drive Me the Mercury." So, in that way, Zoisite has the purpose of strengthening Ami but at the sacrifice of her heart.

First appearing in episode 2, Motoki has captured the interests of many young women such as Tsukino Usagi, Aino Minako, and Kino Makoto. It is no surprise that Ami would be captured under his spell as well. She has a secret crush on this blonde-haired arcade operator in the manga, but never really comes out with her feelings - probably because it's just a simple infactuation, not truly pure love. And why wouldn't she like him: he's got a job, money, an apartment, a car, and he's cute; what girl wouldn't want him? Unfortunately, Motoki doesn't return the same feelings for any of the girls that chase him around. Sure he thinks they're cute, but not beautiful. Namely, because he's already taken by a beauty woman named Reika.

I find this to be a regular crush/fling and nothings serious. I'm not sure Motoki would be able to understand Ami's personality and shyness; he already went just about crazy when his fiance started acting a little funny. I believe Ami would be too nervous around him, seeing as he's a much older guy and has an intimidating personality when compared to hers. The age difference might remind her of her father which would draw her more and more away from forming a long-lasting relationship. They wouldn't last for too long and Ami would probably be the one to break it off. Just a passing fling ...

In PGSM, Nephrite is the pleading, young servant of the menacing Queenberyl. In contrast to his sinister and strategic anime and manga counterparts, he is portrayed as very competitive, hot-headed, and brash in his actions. Nephrite is not regard as the highest of the Shitennou, often the subject of Kunzite's jokes and even Queenberyl's ridicule. He is insecure and lonely and clings to Queenberyl as his support. When his use is no longer needed, Nephrite becomes a human among the mortal world and develops a hatred for his beloved Queen. He starts work at the Crown Karaoke Center and grows into a much calmer and more mature worker.

This is a brand-new coupling developed by PGSM so it was as much a surprise to me as to you; but I like it. At first, there's a lot of distrust and anger in their interactions (Nephrite tries to kill DarkSailorMercury a few times). However, when Ami declares that she hates seeing Nephrite so alone and gives him a new cape, things get a little ... XD I actually enjoy this new pairing. It has our Ami-chan "cooling-down" the hot-headed Nephrite who beings to have feelings for her. But when she turns back to Ami, Ami does not remember any of her DSM interactions; however, Nephrite does. He acts so shyly around her as though he has a crush on her! Nephrite+Ami pairing is very cute but does show how oblivious Ami can be to the feelings of those around her; she's more popular than she thinks! Check-out the in-depth fanlisting to the couple.

Loved by many, yet hated by just the same, Mamoru has caught the attention of many- a-senshi including Kaioh Michiru and of course his girlfriend and long-time lover, Tsukino Usagi. But be warned! Don't let his beautiful face and mysterious character fool you. For Mamoru can be the coldest, rudest man you've ever met; take Usagi's word for it. Then again, he can be the most charming and devoted man one could have. Mamoru as has psychic powers and is sensitive to paranormal phenomena (similar to Hino Rei). As the dashing Tuxedo Kamen is a guardian for the Sailor Soldiers, saving them at the most dramatic moments. But outside his tuxedo, Mamoru is not a fashion icon. He is known for putting together some of the most unusual color combinations.

I've always thought that Mamoru should get him someone a little more mature than Usagi - someone like Ami. Since they are about the same level in intelligence, they would have much to talk about and could understand each other on a higher level. Hey, Mamoru even helped Ami sort through some of her problems in the Episode 97! Both have very distinct fashion styles which revolve around maturity and traditionalism, though Mamoru's seems more adventurous in his color schemes. Nevertheless, I cannot see too much spark in their relationship. They don't offer each other enough excitement and spontaniety that a more out-going person could offer. It would be a very intellectual and scholarly love but rather boring in terms of passion.

A composer's music ignites a flame in Ami's heart which challenges her to express her feelings in a song - that's love. Haha..no it's not! Ok, here I go: Nishino is a composer who writes music with his girlfriend Kyoto. Ami downloads a piece off the internet and writes her own lyrics to it. By luck, she gets a chance to meet with the "music man" and learns of his girlfriend and their work together. Ami is disheartened and refuses to show him her own lyrics. How can she interfere with the delicate creation of two lovers with her own selfish wishes? And the story goes on....

Personally, I don't believe Ami really liked him, as some people say she did. I believe she fell in love with his music and his music. Her love for his music might have been mistaken as a deep love for Nishino, so therefore when she learned of the origin of it, she was heartbroken. Nishino and Kyoto are some of the few people who have really inspired Ami to follow her heart and not always her brain - that was her moral in this episode.

A very quick and faint love occured in Ami-chan's movie "Ami- chan no Hatsukoi". She "fell in love" with a mysterious stranger who continuously matched her scores in all the practice entrance exams. His competition stressed, and stressed Ami day and night - she was determined to defeat her foe. But still, Ami admired him because he was someone who matched her level and gave Ami something to work for. Of course, her friend mistook this as love seeing it as a good explanation on why she was so infactuated with this person. Check-out a full-explanation in Ami-chan's movie.

Probably the second fan-favorite love interest of Ami is the ever-so-cold Taiki Kou. The main guitarist of the Three Lights, Taiki is quite the "model" student. He constantly thinks of the world in a very logical and scientific sense (think Viluy); although, he does enjoy writing poetry and quoting lines from the famous poet William Blake. Taiki is probably the one "Light" that does not embrace his celebrity; he would much rather be at peace and alone. His pessimistic attitude does tend to get in the way, but it's only his way of pushing people out and closing himself from the world. But aside from his obvious skepticism, he is a very intelligent and straight-foward person.

Although Ami and Taiki possess almost equal intelligence, they have it and use it in a very different way. Ami's intelligence comes from her dreams and aspirations - her hopes towards the future. She uses her skills as guidance to fulfill her fantasies and help discover herself. Taiki, on the other hand, gains his knowledge from calculations, observations, and scientific evidence. He utilizes intelligence as a tool rather than a gift. I must say, this clash of ideas does cause some tension to form between the two. In episode 177, Ami and Taiki argue over the importance of dreams and romance. Nonetheless, Ami's kindheartedness and "sincere smarts" wins over Taiki's logic and structured mind. She does help to make him experience the greatness that dreams bring and eventually is one of the causes of Taiki's final acceptance of compassion.
