Ami's personality type is typical of many anime characters; you always have the shy, introverted one, the smart one, the "techno-freak" or all the above combined! Below, I've listed the descriptions and connections between Ami and other characters who resemble like Ami. Provided is a short biography of each plus some connections I've discovered. If you'd like to add your own "sisters," please join and post them at the Innocence LiveJournal.

Tomoyo, a supporting character in Cardcaptor Sakura, has a youthful spirit
and is gifted with musical ability and intelligence beyond her years. Though she's
very wealthly, she uses her money and talents to create dazzling costumes and
matching accessories for her friend Kinomoto Sakura. Tomoyo is also a mature, cool-
headed young lady with extreme tolerance and patience for her friends. You'll
usually see her smiling with a sweatdrop while Sakura and Meilin go at it or Syaoran
and Touya glare at each other. Not only is she talented and mature, but Tomoyo is
also a quick-thinker and very insightful. She was the first to learn the secret
identity of
Sakura,
Li Syaoran's motives, and the concept of Clow Reed's cards. Her "x-ray vision"
allowed her to notice Syaoran's deep feelings for a very special lady. Although she
was eager to tell, Tomoyo kept her cool and calmly let Syaoran do as he wished.
Tomoyo and Ami share a common silence; it allows them to hold secrets and feelings
within themselves to protect others. They also try to please their friends and make
them happy in whatever they do. Both are willing to sacrifice their freedom for
their friends and deal calmly with them; Tomoyo calmly deals with the extrovertive
natures of Kinomoto Sakura and Kerberos; Ami, in the other hand, patiently tolerates
the antics of Tsukino Usagi
and Hino Rei. They share that
knowledge and insight which makes important supporters of their teammates. Each girl
strategies and resolves problems effectively and efficiently (Tomoyo creates dresses
to counter the abilities to Sakura's enemies; Ami uses her computer and visor to
find weak points and inconsistencies in battle). I also see that many people do not
like Tomoyo's seemingly "one-dimensional" personality. Some find her intolerable and
just annoying since she clings so closely to Sakura. The fan reaction is similar to
that of Ami's; some people rather dislike her "nerdy" and "geeky" love of studying.

Yuri is the embodiment of a lady in Ai Tenshi Densetsu Wedding Peach; not
only is she polite and courteous, but she is gentle, elegant, and sweet. She is an
apologetic friend who tries her hardest to please others. Yuri is also the tactician
of the angels. She thinks before she issues an action - unlike her headstrong
teammate Hinagiku. Her quick-thinking and strategic planning have helped the Ai
Tenshi
destroy akuma many times over. As Angel Lily, her powers
do not focus on strength but on ma against that of her allies. But, brawn is not the
only factor of victory, right?
Yuri and Ami have the same elegance and politeness like Tomoyo possess. The two
ladies are sensitive to the harsh comments of others and are often questioning
themselves on who they are or why they are here. Yuri and Ami have the unique
strength that comes from their weak, yet effective, attacks. They were both
discovered as the second warrior and have strong relationship with their main
characters. But probably the most noticeable similarity is their transformation
sequence. Both girls end in almost the exact same pose for their initial change.
Plus, their main fuku color is blue. This is probably because both shows had
the same artistic director (who must have loved that pose!).

An intelligent and gentle girl, Hououji Fuu is the strategist and tactical planner
in Magic Knight Rayearth. She is the kind of person who would plan ahead for
any situation. Perhaps the most mature out of the ladies, Fuu is a very straight-
foward young lady; she will tell anyone what's wrong very bluntly. However, she
treats everyone - especially strangers - with the utmost respect. She has a kind
nature and is not easily angered by the little things that may go wrong. As a
knight, Fuu's most prominent power is her "Healing Wind"
which reflects her
devotion and care for her fellow warriors. But, there are down sides to this
intriguing woman. She has a morbid sense of humor - meaning, her expressions don't
quite fit her words. Fuu also has a habit of stating the obvious, but everyone does
sometimes, right?
I truly think she is just a mirror image of Ami. Fuu and Ami are both the
strategists of their respectful anime. They both share identical analytical skills
and an intelligence above their peers. (It's also worth notice to see they both have
short hair and wear glasses - a stereotype?). I find their elements to be very
telling. Wind and water both are usually considered calming and gentle; but at
times, they can become dangerous and unforgiving. Wind & water highlight the latent
strength and power lying within Fuu and Ami; it's in opposition to Sailoruranus's and Sailorneptune's interpretation of
wind and water. In My
Heart suggests that Fuu is "less inclined to take the leader's role in group
situations" which is similar to Ami's usual job as a supporter/strategizer. But Fuu
and Ami do lead when they execute their plans into action and they need to help of
their fellow warriors. And furthermore, Fuu and Ami both are criticized for "stating
the obvious" in situations.

Alphonse is a spirited, gentle, and very mature young boy in Fullmetal
Alchemist . He is the quiet one: shy, inquisitive, the "level-headed" one; Al is
always the one to keep his brother under raps. He also has a great deal of
intelligence, aceing the Alchemy exam with amazing scores. But this boy full of
talent and dreams may easily fall to the dark side. Once his perceptions have been
shattered, his thoughts broken and constricted, Al gets out of control and forgets
all his morals. The strength and anger that lay dormant inside him emerges in a fit
of hatred and passion. Because he believes
so
strongly in his dreams, he'll do all he can to defend them - even if that may mean
hurting someone. Yet, through all this, Al stays pure and true; he is a great
testament of faith and innocence. Keep on dreamin' Al; one day you'll see your face
again ...
The tragedy of Alphonse almost mimics that PGSM
version of Ami's. Within both lies a latent, uncontrollable anger gathered from
years of holding back and tolerating that can be manipulated and turn into violence
and evil. The innocence of these two characters seems, at first, so fragil and
defenseless. But, in the end Al and Ami show us the strength of their devotion and
their personal triumphs over "lust, wrath, gluttony, greed, sloth, vanity, and
envy." I also see the connections of their gentleness and maturity. Usually, we see
Al and Ami being the "mediators" or "moderators" of the other extrovertive and
energetic characters. (most often they have sweatdrops and rosy cheeks ^_^). But I
find this trait so much more accustomed to a parent or mentor than peer. It almost
appears neither Al nor Ami ever got a chance to live as a child and had to grow-up
too fast.

The heir to the prestigious Hyuuga Clan, Hinata considered an embarrassment by her
father and her close relative Hyuuga Neji in Naruto. She is considered weak
an unworthy of learning the bloodline techniques of her family. And Hinata becomes
quiet and reserved because of this. Though, she has not shown courage or strength,
she originally signed up to become a shinobi to show her father that she was worthy;
but with no avail. However, Hinata grows into a fine warrior when she meets Uzumaki
Naruto. She develops feelings for him and doesn't hesitate to show them (through
blushes,
fainting spells, and cheering on in the background). He inspires
Hinata to believe in herself and change into what she wants to be. She has inherited
the Hyuuga's technique, Byakugan, which allows her to see the Chakra lines in
her opponent and determine his/her weaknesses.
Many, many, MANY fans compare Hinata's style to Ami's: they both have short,
darkblue hair; they both are quiet and reserved; they both have trouble expressing
their emotions and often blush at the slightest hint of impropriety. And they both
have rather distant relationship with their fathers! It makes them cute and very
well-loved characters in the anime / manga world; but also part of the archetypical
/ stereotypical seemingly "weak" girl with a strong heart). Some even reference
Hinata as "Sailor Hinata" after a scene in a waterfall where her movements mimic
those of Ami's transformation sequence. Furthermore, she learns her most DEFENSIVE
technique by using water! Coincidence? But I find the deeper connections in their
fighting styles. Neither Hinata nor Sailormercury exhibit traditional hand-to-hand
combat skills; they focus on inhibiting movement by altering statuses. On a side-
note, both girls become more open and aggressive when they encounter the main
character of their series. They both develop deep relationships and connections with
these wild blondes.
