Many of Haruka's statistics define her a person and outline her most noticeable characteristics. Takeuchi Naoko played around with mythologies and spiritual belief when crafting the characters of her successful meta-series. A smooth-talker, devoted, and a bit rash, Haruka is the epitome of "the mature boy." She stands out as a very noticeable figure in Sailormoon.
Haruka's full Japanese name is 天王はるか. There is some confusion over the romanization of this name, however, how you do it is probably correct. (Tenoh, Ten'ou, etc.).[1] "Tenoh Haruka" roughly translates to "Distant Sky King".[2] The fact that her name relates to a "sky king" and not a queen may be a reason why her mannerisms are much more "butch" and
masculine than the other senshi. In the North American dub, she is referred to as "Amara Tenno."[2] I was disappointed in this name choice - it has little impact and doesn't strike me as meaningfully as "Haruka" does. I know a few fans tossed around "Alex" for a bit, but that came to nothing.
Haruka's birthday is listed on January 27, 1977 which made her 17 when the S(uper) season of the anime premiered in Japan.[2] Right now, though, she would be 31 years old!. Her birthdate falls under the zodiac sign of Aquarius, the WATER carrier (hint hint).[2] Aquarians possess "strong and attractive personalities." They can be "exuberant [and] lively" ones who hides their feelings "under a cloak of frivolity."[3] Well, that explains our flirtatious eyecandy right there ...
Aquarians are also strong-willed with strong convictions yet can "see the validity of the argument even if they do not accept it themselves." At times they need to "retire from the world" and become "temporary loners ... fiercely independent, refusing to follow the crowd."[3] In Episode 106, Haruka and Michiru's first meeting, we get a glimpse at Haruka's independence. Although a premonition of the world's end tormets her, she does not give-up on her dreams and goals and continues to push forward. There is a struggle between what she wants and what she's "destined" to do; however, Haruka realizes that she's been given a great power to save many lives and pushes her own dreams aside to help Michiru.
Since Haruka's blood type is "B", she is likely to be "curious and interested in everything." Haruka is usually full of enthusiasm and energy when she meets new people though some may think she trying to hide something - a common trait among B-typers. She also "knows what's important to her and what she should hold on to".[4] This helps to explain the deep connection she has with Michiru. Haruka is more than willing to sacrifice her life to save those of the ones she loves but does not expect that from others. In Episode 110 she is horrified when Michiru pushes Haruka out of the way and takes a blow head-on, revealing her talisman. Hesitating almost made her lose the best thing in her life.
B-typers are usually considered "above-average" and have much success in many ventures.[4] Haruka's favorite subject is P.E. but dislikes Modern Japanese. And the girl loves anything fast (cars, bikes, etc.)! She always says she "feels like the wind" when she runs.[5] How else do you think Elsa Grey came to know of Haruka and her track record? She is also a fantastic pianist, performing with Michiru and the Three Lights in concert. Haruka is extremely focused and devoted to her crafts.
Haruka's diet is accustomed to fit her quick lifestyle. She enjoys salads above other foods, most likely because it's quick and easy to make. She dislikes nattō (納豆), a traditional Japanese dish made of fermented soybeans and usually eaten a breakfast. It is a good source of protein, quite sticky, has a very distant smell, and is usually eaten on top of rice (always stirred before eating). It does take about 6 hours to make and Haruka does not seem like she could wait that long.[6] For a girl on the go, natto is a no-no ^_~.
Gold is considered to be Haruka's favorite color, but she is also associated with dark blue and orange.[2] Gold is a positive color that gives a "bright and cheerful feeling"; it reflects that playful, flirtatious side. Gold is also a "special" color that denotes anything of greatness and worth, namely Haruka's crafts. [7] On the flip side, gold can bring a "somber and traditional aura" mirroring the more serious side of Haruka.[7] All of her colors mirror her maturity and "grown-up" appeal.
